Day 1: Friday, September 15– Welcome Aboard! We’ll depart our pick up locations for a nice ride across the states to our first en route hotel for the evening in Nebraska.
Day 2: Saturday, September 16 – Enjoy breakfast at our hotel before departing for our hotel in Utah.
Day 3: Sunday, September 17 – Enjoy breakfast at hotel before we’re on our way to see Mormon Tabernacle Church, for a picture stop. Home of the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Then we’re off to see the Bonneville Salt Flats. A densely packed salt pan in Utah. Imagine a place so flat you seem to see the curvature of the planet, so barren not even the simplest life forms can exist. We will continue our drive until we arrive to our Nevada hotel. Lunch and Dinner on own.
Day 4: Monday, September 18 – Let’s have breakfast at the hotel and then be on our way to Napa Valley for the day. Our first stop is to Sterling Vineyards in Calistoga. One of the most sought after destinations in Napa Valley! 300 feet above the town, see the panoramic views, we’ll take a Gondola ride to the entrance, be greeted with a glass of wine. Take a self-guided tour of Sterling Vineyards’ winemaking facilities. Beautiful outdoor terraces and elegant tasting rooms provide the perfect environment to enjoy exceptional wines while taking in the view. And a tasting of current release wines. The we will travel on down to St. Helena, where we’ll have lunch on own and tie to explore Main Street of St. Helena and its many shops. After, we’ll visit Oxbow Public Market, Napa’s community gathering space for great food and wine. Free time for some souvenir shopping before heading to our San Francisco area hotel for 3 nights. Lunch on own. Dinner (Pre-Paid)
Day 5: Tuesday, September 19 – After breakfast at hotel, we’ll depart to pick up our guide for a day of touring San Francisco. We will drive through Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghiradelli Square. Then be dropped off at Ghirardelli Square. Enjoy Free Time and Lunch on Own browsing Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf. Experience amazing views and a sea of sea lions to chowder bread bowls and California wines, it all starts at PIER 39. Hmmm….a stop for chocolate sounds good to go with the wine! Then we’ll visit Union Street, a popular locals shopping area before seeing the Golden Gate Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate strait, the one-mile-wide, one-point-seven-mile-long channel between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. We will stop at both the South Viewing area and the North Viewing area for picture-taking. Then to Sausalito for a city tour. Sausalito is just a ferry ride across the bay and offers unique tours, attractions such as “Bay Model” and “Bay Area Discovery Museum,” enchanting boutique shops, art studios and galleries and a wide selection of restaurants, outdoor cafes and bistros, many with stunning views back across the bay to the city. Lunch on our own and time for shopping. After, onward to Ocean Beach to Visitor’s Center and stop to put feet in the ocean. If that’s not enough, we will go thru a part of Golden Gate Park, visit the Japanese Tea Garden, Academy of Sciences and DeYoung Museum to Haight Ashbury drive through to Twin Peaks. Then onward to Chinatown for shopping. After, we’ll enjoy Dinner (Pre-Paid) prior to returning to the hotel.
Day 6: Wednesday, September 20 – Enjoy breakfast at hotel before we depart for a guided tour. Hear both sides of life in the island prison including such famous events as escape attempts, “The Battle of ’46”, food riots, and surviving solitary confinement. Leave for Fisherman’s Wharf to Nob Hill for the famous hotels and Grace Cathedral. Lunch on our own. Visit Grace Cathedral, See Mark Hopkins Hotel, After we’re off for a Cable Car Ride to Union Square – St. Francis Hotel and Macys with time for shopping. Visit the Civic Center with City Hall, Opera House Symphony Hall, etc. Group picture in front of City Hall. Then to Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 for shopping.
Then we will take a ferry ride across to Alcatraz Island – an inescapable experience. We’ll take the Cellhouse Audio Tour. No one can tell the Alcatraz tale like the men who actually lived it. The captivating Alcatraz Cellhouse Audio Tour brings history alive through the actual voices of the correctional officers and inmates who lived on the island during the infamous Federal Penitentiary era.
After, we’ll have Dinner at the Swiss Louis Restaurant right on the Pier waterfront. (Pre-Paid) After dinner, we’ll return to our hotel to relax up for the next day of touring.
Day 7: Thursday, September 21 – After a nice hot breakfast before leaving for a nice leisurely drive along the coast. We will drive through 17 miles of Pebble Beach drive. This private 17-Mile Drive is widely recognized as one of the most scenic drives in the world. The famous coastal landmark runs through Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach, from the dramatic Pacific coastline to the majestic Del Monte Forest. See the Lone Cypress—one of California’s best-known landmarks—as well as Spanish Bay and the world-renowned emerald fairways of Pebble Beach Golf Links. We will stop in Carmel for lunch on own and a little free time. After a beautiful coastal drive, we’ll travel to our Barstow, CA hotel for the evening.
Day 8: Friday, September 22 – After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for our Utah hotel. But first, we’ll stop at Route 66 “Mother Road” Museum. The Museum displays a collection of historic photographs and artifacts related to Route 66 and the Mojave Desert Communities. Displays include development of the United States Route 66 from early pioneer trails, railroads, automotive history, businesses and sites. The we’ll travel on to Utah to our hotel for the evening.
Day 9: Saturday, September 23– We’ll enjoy a breakfast at hotel before departing for our drive to Colorado to our hotel. Have lunch on own and then visit the Argo Gold Mine & Mill. Our tour includes a view into the past history of the ARGO Mill and Tunnel through viewing a history movie that will explain its’ origins. Our walking tour historians will offer a demonstration of mining equipment outside the gift shop and tour office, then transport you up to our ore mine, the DOUBLE EAGLE. From there, you will enter the 5 story ARGO Mill and descend through the myriad of artifacts left in place from the days when the MIGHTY ARGO was in full production. After you reach the bottom, enjoy looking through the fantastic array of mining artifacts and equipment at the base of the ARGO Mill in our museum room. It is chock full of antique photos that are great visual representations of what took place here at the ARGO and in the Idaho Springs area during the Rocky Mountain Gold Rush Era. When you come out of the ARGO Mill, you will find yourself in our panning yard where we offer a gold panning lesson and assist you in finding real gold ore. AND – you keep what you find! After a wonderful fun tour, we’ll travel on to our hotel with dinner en route.
Day 10: Sunday, September 24 – Enjoy breakfast at hotel before departing for our Nebraska hotel. We’ll enjoy lunch and dinner along the way. Then to our hotel for the evening.
Day 11: Monday, September 25 – Enjoy our last breakfast together before we arrive home with many pictures, memories and new great friends! Welcome home!
