Featuring nearly 700 open-air booths on 40 acres, you will love shopping the market in Northern Indiana’s Amish Country. Find bargains on home decor, clothing, tools, crafts, books, beauty supplies, furniture, and everything imaginable. After, we’ll return to the hotel for relaxation or browse the Das Dutch Essenhaus Village Shops. Explore five unique shops, Originally homestead buildings, these five quaint gift shops have been renovated and now exist as a charming collection of gift shops. Featuring: inspirational gifts, framed artwork, games, lake, coastal and lodge-inspired décor, unique handbags, jewelry, quilts, fragrances, clothing, handcrafted Amish furniture and much more.  Then, we’ll depart for a nice, yummy Family-Style Dinner (Pre-Paid) before returning to our hotel.

Day 3: Wednesday, May 8  – Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Then we will take a Guided Tour of the Jayco Plant. Let’s go behind the scenes to learn how Jayco luxury fifth wheels and motorized products are brought to life. Our tour guide will walk us through an operational manufacturing facility and will explain how they build their quality units. Prolonged walking and standing required. Or can stay behind in their Visitors Center. After, we’ll meet our step-on guide for an area guided tour starting with lunch at the Southside Soda Shop & Diner, featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. With old standards and new creations they are sure to have one of our past or present favorites.  Next, we will visit Wakarusa Dime Store and Candy Shop, Home of the Jumbo Jellybean!! Try one, your life will never be the same! OR get some old-fashioned candies available! Then onto the Nappanee Center Museum to learn of the story of Nappanee. Then a visit to Coppes Commons, this historic attraction was originally the factory for Coppes Napanee, a leading manufacturer of the famous “Hoosier Cabinet” at the turn of the last century. The 100,000 s.f. renovated factory now houses a variety of specialty shops offering locally-made, handcrafted and freshly-baked items. Get a glimpse into the history of the Coppes Kitchens, once ordered by Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and President John F. Kennedy, while visiting the cabinet museum and shopping this rustic and rambling brick building. Watch creative ice-cream treats come to life using liquid nitrogen, taste and buy fresh baked goods, cheeses, and bulk foods, search for treasure in their antique mall or find your next great read in the bookstore. That’s just a sample of what’s in store at Coppes Commons!  Whew, tired yet? Hold on as we’re not done yet! We have a GREAT late afternoon/evening set up with a visit to Amish Acres where we will have a Guided House & Farm Tour. Relax as we view the documentary films Genesis and Exodus of the Amish, and walk the oaken floorboards of the 125 year old Amish homestead. You’ll learn the whys and ways of the Amish as our guide directs us through the 12 room white frame house, the Grossdaadi Haus, the Sweitzer bank barn and inviting outbuildings.  A tractor drawn wagon circles the farm’s pond stopping at the German one room schoolhouse and passing by the blacksmith shop, maple sugar camp, ice house, mint distillery, broom shop, weaving house and railroad crossing guard building. Then we’ll enjoy a Thresher’s Dinner – Sit down under the hand-hewn timbers of the Restaurant Barn and enjoy Amish Acres nationally famous Threshers Dinner, a family style feast of Amish country favorites. In tribute to the generations of Amish threshers who band together each harvest season to cut and thresh, thus separating the grain from the chaff, each other’s crops in friendship, mutual aid and neighborliness, this menu is dedicated. In the spirit of neighborliness and thanksgiving, and in the tradition of the Threshers Dinner, you’ll share your simple vittles amid the hand hewn beams of John T. Vawter’s bank barn which was originally raised in 1870 and reconstructed here in 1977. Then a little free shopping time in the Greeting Barn Gift Shop and Restaurant Bakery. Lastly, we’ll enjoy a musical, “Life Could Be a Dream” performed in the majestic 1911 Round Barn Theatre. From the creators of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” comes a brand new musical in the style of “Forever Plaid” and “Smoke on the Mountain”. Using some of the greatest songs from the 1960’s such as “Tears on My Pillow,” “Earth Angel,” “Unchained Melody,” “Lonely Teardrops,” and “The Glory of Love” Life Could Be a Dream asks “How can a quartet of young men transform into an award-winning singing group?” LA Weekly christened the musical “affectionate and clever – a rousing good-time musical.”  You’ll have to wait until the final moments of the Big Wopper Talent Search to find out what happens to our boys and why Theatremania predicts “Dream will delight audiences for years to come!” Then back to our hotel.

Day 4: Thursday, May 9  – Let’s have breakfast and then depart for a FULL day of touring. Let’s all have a Brown Bag Day!! We will tour in and around Shipshewana and fill our bags with special goodies along the way!! Great day with tons of fun awaits us! Then we’ll enjoy a “Haystack” Meal in a true Amish home.
