Day 1: Sunday, February 3rd – Welcome Aboard! We’ll depart our pick up locations for a nice ride to our en route hotel for the evening in Des Moines where we will get plenty of rest prior to our flight the next morning.

Day 2: Monday, February 4th – Depart hotel by shuttle to airport.  Depart on American Airlines for Costa Rica. Change plans in Charlotte, NC. Then arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica. Then meet our local guide to be escorted to our motorcoach. Transfer to hotel and check-in at the Holiday Inn. Dinner included this evening. Then down time to relax, meet ne friends, check out our surroundings and get plenty of rest before our busy but fun week!

Day 3: Tuesday, February 5th – This morning we will have breakfast at our hotel before departing for the Fortuna area, with a stop at the Doka Coffee tour. Visiting the largest coffee plantation in Costa Rica will allow us to learn everything about the process related to cultivation, processing and good practices, as well as your natural and cultural environment. Discover step-by-step process of seed germination to the first crop of their plants. There we will observe and have explained the development process of the plant up to the point of recollection of the ripe grain. Then we will learn about the history of the estate, its owners, the production and varieties of plants, the geography of the area and the traditional ways of cultivating the grain. Then arrive at our Fortuna area hotel, Hotel Tilajari. A great resort located in San Carlos, a place privileged with tropical rainforest and natural rich landscape, Arenal Volcano and lake, rivers, hot springs, adventure and relaxation activities.  Our resort, right on the edge of the San Carlos River offers a wide range of services and facilities to get the best travel experience during our stay in Costa Rica.  Dinner included this evening. Then we’ll visit Paradise Hot Springs, an exclusive thermal spa surrounded by forest. Here we will have the opportunity to relax in these naturally medicinal waters. Then return to hotel for evening.

Day 4: Wednesday, February 6th – This morning, we’ll have breakfast at our hotel before departing for a leisurely walking Volcano tour and boat trip on the lake. We’ll take approximately a 1-mile walk along the trail through the National Park, stopping all along the way to enjoy the flora and the wildlife pointed out by our Guide en route to the boat trip on the lake where we’ll enjoy Spectacular views of the Volcano! The Arenal volcano measures at least 1,633 metres high. It is conically shaped with a crater 140 metres in diameter. Geologically, Arenal is considered a young volcano and it is estimated to be less than 7,500 years old. It is also known as “Pan de Azúcar”, “Canaste”, “Volcan Costa Rica”, “Volcan Río Frío” or “Guatusos Peak”. After we’ll return to hotel for rest before our Hands-on Cooking Class with Costa Rican Chef! We’ll be joined by the chef from the Hotel Tilajari (along with Michael DeVidts, of course!) Michael was our chef on our 2018 New Orleans tour and was wonderful!! (Hmmmm…hope he brings some of those yummy pralines!!) Everyone will work together to prepare dinner tonight and oh what fun we’ll have!! Dinner included.

Day 5: Thursday, February 7th – Good Morning! Time for breakfast at our hotel, then we’re off to Manuel Antonio! First we’ll have a cultural stop in the city of San Ramon. Lying in the stunningly beautiful Central Valley of Costa Rica in Alajuela province is the tiny city of San Ramon! Set amidst a dramatic landscape of mountains, San Ramon is a close-knit place with strong community ties and has a slow relaxed pace of life. Then we’ll stop for lunch before departing foe a crocodile tour! We’ll board an open air boat and travel up river to see some of the most impressive  crocodiles you can imagine!! You won’t believe we will get to them!! After, we will check into our 4-Star hotel, 100% smoke-free Best Western Hotel Kamuk & Casino. The Best Western Hotel Kamuk is located in downtown Quepos, an area full of beautiful beaches, variety of entertainment, rich local culture and human warmth difficult to match! Take some time to check out this hotel with its spa, restaurant, beachfront breakfast and casino. After, we have checked into the hotel, we will proceed to Dinner at Raphael’s Terrazas Restaurant.

Day 6: Friday, February 8th – Enjoy a leisure day with breakfast at our hotel. Then we’ll have a FREE day to relax on the beach, go shopping, etc. (Tour desk info available at hotel) Shuttle bus will take you wherever you wish to go. Lunch/Dinner on own.

Day 7: Saturday, February 9th – After enjoying breakfast at our hotel, we’ll depart for the Farmer’s Market, Quepos Town. This is where we will shop for ingredients for our hands-on cooking class. We’ll go shopping in teams to the Farmers Market to buy the ingredients for dinner tonight! Then, we’ll return to our hotel for Free time to relax on beach, shopping, etc. (Lunch on own) Shuttle bus will take us wherever we wish to go.  Then, onto our second Hands-on Cooking Class of local food with our Costa Rican Chef and Michael Devidts. We will have so much fun visiting, learning new ways and working together to prepare our meal for Dinner (included) that we purchased from the Farmers Market!

Day 8: Sunday, February 10th – After breakfast at our hotel, we will depart for Manuel Antonio National Park tour. Today, we’ll take a nice leisurely walk approx. 1 mile through the National Park, stopping to enjoy the floras and the wildlife with our Guide. This will be a very leisurely walk with lots of stops along the way.  After, we’ll have a free afternoon to relax on beach, shop, etc. (Lunch on own). Shuttle bus will take you anywhere. This evening, Dinner will be included at Ronny’s Place Restaurant. We will depart a little early so we may arrive at the restaurant in time to see a beautiful, stunning sunset! Located in the middle of a 90-acre far, where the restaurant is the only building. You can find Restaurante y Mirador Mi Lugar (Ronny’s Place), a beautiful “rancho” at farm’s highest mountain peak, allowing for a Magnificent view of a 2-bay private beach and horizon. Their privileged location makes them the only restaurant in town where you can see the sunset 365 days a year!

Day 9: Monday, February 11th – This morning after breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for San Jose with a stop on the way for lunch on own. Then check into our hotel, Holiday Inn.  Rest up some prior to our last wonderful Dinner. This is a SPECIAL Dinner (included), “Tiquicia,” escazu typical experience of their traditions Tiquicia Restaurant is land mark, well known restaurant located in the upper hills of Escazú, on the way to the small town of Bebedero. Perched high up on the hill, the restaurant offers stunning views of San José’s Central Valley and the atmosphere is a nice mix between rustic and classy …it is one of the most incredible views you’ve ever seen!! In addition to this amazing dinner, Tiquicia is also known for its live ‘folk’ style shows. The shows are folklore dances native to Costa Rica by local dancers.

Day 10: Tuesday, February 12th: Our last breakfast in Costa Rica at our hotel. Then depart for San Jose Airport where we transfer to our American Airlines flights for home. Exchange in Dallas prior to landing in Des Moines approx. 4:30pm. Our motorcoach will meet us and proceed to drop us off at our pick-up locations. We hope you had a wonderful time with us in Costa Rica having met new people, new cultures, foods and a experience of a life-time!
