Explore the roots of Twain’s genius as you discover how a young boy from a small river town became America’s most beloved author and humorist.  Tour the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum Properties seven historic properties and museums – See the Mark Twain Boyhood Home, a National Historic Landmark, the Becky Thatcher House, Huckleberry Finn House, J.M. After, Lunch (On Own) in Downtown Historic Hannibal. Then visit the Mark Twain Cave. Discover the wonder of the mysterious labyrinth that inspired Mark Twain’s famous work, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. This 60-minute guided tour is all easy walking, and electrically lit. Mark Twain Cave perfectly captures the rich history, inspiring literature, and natural wonder of the area. Haven’t visited the cave in a while? Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) spent his childhood playing in Hannibal and Hannibal’s Big Cave, 170 years later, you can still see his name written on the cave walls. Even though it has been hiding there since his childhood, his signature was only recently discovered. Discover it yourself on your tour through the cave! Return to Hannibal and have a little free time to stroll the riverfront of the Mississippi. After, depart for Dinner (Pre-Paid). Then there is time to enjoy Music Under the Stars. Live music is performed on historic Hill Street. Food and beverages are available during each concert. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Day 3:

Friday, August 16

Enjoy a nice hot Breakfast (Pre-Paid) before departing for a very busy day! Discover the Tom and Huck statue and nearby Veterans Memorial and Freedom Bell. Discover the historic Tom and Huck statue, which makes for wonderful photo opportunities. Just steps above, the Veterans Memorial and Freedom Bell are framed by the scenic approach where the former Mark Twain Memorial Bridge once stood. Next, we’ll visit Rockcliffe Mansion, one of America’s Castles! Enjoy a docent-guided tour of this turn of the century mansion overlooks the Mississippi . Rockcliffe Mansion sits high upon a limestone cliff with a commanding view of Hannibal and the Mississippi River – a view that seems fitting for this stately mansion that was home to Hannibal’s wealthiest lumber baron in the Gilded Age.  John J. Cruikshank, Jr., wanted a grand home to richly display the finest woods and furnishings money could buy, yet one that would emanate warmth and a feeling of quiet dignity.  Construction started on his 13,500 sq. ft dream residence in 1898 and the family moved in by 1900. The mansion is also notable for the fact that Mark Twain spoke from the grand staircase in 1907 during his last visit to Hannibal. Then, we’ll enjoy Lunch (Pre-Paid) at the Hannibal Country Club. Next, enjoy a wonderful performance of “MARGARET: The Incredible Molly Brown”, by Erin Kelley, featuring Hannibal’s own Margaret Tobin (Molly) Brown, the extraordinary woman beyond the Titanic’s most famous survivor. Next, enjoy Free Time to explore Downtown Hannibal. Free time to take a leisurely stroll down the streets of Historic Downtown Hannibal, filled with charming stores, art galleries, ice cream parlors, and so much more! Return to hotel to relax and freshen up prior to dinner. Then, depart for the Mark Twain Riverboat Dinner Cruise. (Pre-Paid). All aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat for a two-hour dinner cruise, with delicious buffet, followed by live music.

Day 4:

Saturday, August 17

Enjoy a nice hot Breakfast (Pre-Paid) at our hotel prior to departing for home. With a nice drive through to look at their Hannibal Murals along the way. In 2019, Hannibal’s Bicentennial, brought them the unique “Ghost Signs” – new paintings that reflect old advertisements that were common on the sides of buildings in the 1800s. These include the Ladies Shoe advertisement, Bear Creek Lime Co. and the Diamond Jo Line Steamers signs that can be found downtown. These were all items or companies that could once be found in Hannibal. Historic ghost signs are just the beginning! Have fun exploring these murals, which appear all around Hannibal. Many are in Historic Downtown. Then depart for home with many pictures, memories and new great friends! Welcome home!
