Day 1:
Saturday, May 31
Anchorage, AK :
Today, you will be transferred to the Cedar Rapids Airport for your flight to Anchorage, AK. Once you arrive in Anchorage, you will be transferred to your hotel for the night. The rest of the day is yours to explore Anchorage. Dinner is on your own this evening.
Day 2:
Sunday, June 1
Anchorage to Valdez:
After breakfast this morning at your hotel, enjoy a city tour of Anchorage featuring the historic downtown area. You will see Lake Hood where 190+ float planes take off and land daily, Earthquake Park to learn about the 1964 earthquake, and the Alaska Native Heritage Center where you will have the chance to learn about the history and culture of Alaska.
Later, travel south along the scenic Seward Highway to the port town of Whittier. Upon arrival into Whittier, board your marine vessel for a scenic journey through Prince William Sound to the town of Valdez. Enjoy the pristine waters as you look for marine animals, glaciers, and towering mountains. Overnight Valdez Area. Dinner will be on your own this evening. (B)
Day 3:
Monday, June 2
Fairbanks:
This morning after breakfast, board your motorcoach for a journey north to the largest city in the interior, Fairbanks, known to Alaskans as the Golden Heart City. The route takes you along the Wrangell – St Elias National Park, the largest park in the U. S. and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Overnight Fairbanks. Dinner is on your own this evening. (B)
Day 4:
Tuesday, June 3
Fairbanks:
This morning after your hotel breakfast, learn how the gold rush affected Alaska’s interior on a sightseeing tour with an include visit to the Museum of the North. Cruise on the Chena River aboard a sternwheeler and experience the thrill of river travel. There will also be time today for shopping on your own in the downtown area. Tonight, enjoy an authentic salmon bake . Overnight Fairbanks. (B, D)
Day 5:
Wednesday, June 4
Fairbanks to Denali:
After breakfast, ride the motorcoach south to Denali National Park. Enjoy an afternoon exploring this pristine area at your leisure by either participating in a complimentary park service activity or optional tour. There are many to choose from including mild or wild-river rafting, flight sightseeing, a jet boat safari on the Nenana River, or a visit to an Iditarod champions award winning dog kennel. Overnight Denali. Dinner is on your own this evening. (B)
Day 6:
Thursday, June 5
Denali National Park:
After breakfast this morning, travel deep into Denali on the Tundra Wilderness Tour and search the vast wilderness for bear, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep. This five hour journey is narrated allowing for insight into the animals, flora and fauna of this spectacular region. You will also have time to explore the Visitors Center. A snack is included today on the bus. Overnight Denali. Tonight, enjoy dinner at the Denali Dinner Theatre. (B, Snack, D)
Day 7:
Friday, June 6
Denali to Anchorage – Railcar Adventure:
This morning after breakfast, transfer to the Denali Rail Depot where you will board a deluxe dome railcar for a scenic transfer south to the climbing town of Talkeetna. Watch for a glimpse of Denali (formerly Mt McKinley) or black bear along the banks of the Susitna River. Lunch is included today on the train. Upon arrival into Talkeetna, board your motorcoach for a scenic transfer south to Anchorage. Tonight, share stories of your Alaskan Adventure with your fellow travelers at an included closing night dinner. Overnight Anchorage. (B,L,D)
Day 8:
Saturday, June 7
Depart for Home:
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home. On arrival in Cedar Rapids, a motorcoach will be waiting to transfer you home. (B) Arrive home with many pictures, memories and new great friends! Welcome home!
